Android app stuck on “Background Service Preparing” – transcription WebSocket closes with server error 1011

On Android, Omi remains stuck on “Background Service Preparing” and manual recording fails with a connection error.

The app has microphone, Bluetooth, location, notification, and background permissions enabled. Android shows the foreground microphone service as running, and the microphone is successfully accessed, so this does not appear to be a device permission or battery-optimization issue.

Debug logs show that the transcription WebSocket connects successfully, then closes repeatedly after roughly 19 seconds:

transcription_socket_connected

sample_rate: 16000

codec: pcm16

language: de

include_speech_profile: false

transcription_socket_closed

close_code: 1011

reason: server_error

The affected connection uses the soniox STT service with German language selected.

App version: 1.0.551

Device: OnePlus 15, Android 16

Time observed: 2026-09-17 around 20:47–20:48 UTC

Could you please investigate the server-side error for this transcription session? I can provide the full redacted debug log privately if needed.

Thanks for the detailed logs and for listing what you’ve already tried. We’ll use the September 17, 20:47–20:48 UTC window to investigate the Soniox/German transcription failure, including the asynchronous failure. Please send the redacted debug log privately to help@omi.me with a link to this post, and include a session or request ID if the log has one. Please don’t post the full log here. We can’t confirm the cause until the server records are checked.

Tried: different Internet connection, phone restart, app restart, force stop + restart and tried using built in microphone instead of headphones. And btw, that asynchronous transcription didn't work either
