Configurable Single Press Timeout

Currently, the single press to talk to Omi’s timeout appears to be fixed at ~15 seconds and is not user-configurable. According to the msgs on discord, this acts as a safety guardrail.

for many real-world use cases, especially during brainstorming or workflows, this timeout can interrupt natural interactions. Users may pause while thinking, reading something, or performing a task before continuing the conversation.

It would be very helpful if the conversation timeout could be configurable, either through, user setting in the app (like the current convo time out)
For example, users could choose values such as:

  • 15s (default)

  • 30s

  • 60s

  • 2–5 minutes

  • Custom value

This would enable more flexible interaction patterns while still allowing a safe default for general users.

Keep 15s as the default guardrail but allow configurable timeout in settings!!

Hi @chetan_k , you’re right that the single-press voice question ends after about 15 seconds, and changing the regular conversation timeout doesn’t change it. Pauses to think or read can make that limit too short.

We’ll keep your request for a configurable voice-question timeout under consideration, with 15 seconds as the default. One detail would help us shape it: would you prefer a longer maximum session length, or a timeout that resets each time you speak and ends only after silence? We don’t have a release date to share yet.

A longer maximum session length would be perfect because a timeout that resets after each time I speak will have a lot of lag. Being able to press it to speak for more than 15 seconds and press it back to process it works perfectly.

Thanks, that’s clear. You want a configurable maximum length for the single-press voice question not a timer that resets after speech. The first press would start it, and a second press would end and process it immediately. We’ll retain your proposed 15-second default and longer options in the request. There’s no release date yet.
